Project Description

Luxum Lighting needed a mobile app that could serve as a central hub for controlling various smart lights from different brands. The goal was to create a user-friendly and visually distinct interface that allowed users to sync, control, and customize their smart lighting system seamlessly. The app needed to support features such as brightness adjustment, color changes , organization of lights into groups, and scheduling actions. My task was to research, design, and prototype this app to ensure it met both client and user needs effectively.

My Role

As the UX/UI Researcher and Designer for Luxum Lighting, I was responsible for several key aspects of the project. I conducted competitor research to identify essential features and user pain-points. I created low-fidelity prototypes to outline the app's structure and flow, and facilitated feedback sessions to refine the design. I developed a cohesive design system that defined the branding and visual assets. Finally, I produced high-fidelity, interactive prototypes that demonstrated the app's functionality and aesthetic, providing a clear vision of the final product.

The Challenges

One of the main challenges was ensuring the app's compatibility with a wide range of smart light brands, each with different features and capabilities. Balancing a user-friendly interface with advanced customization options so that the app was intuitive and sleek, but offered full customization options, required careful planning and design iteration. Aditionally, to create distinctive branding and app design, each asset and component of the app was individually designed to ensure a unique and cohesive look.

The Problem

Many existing apps lacked compatibility with multiple brands, forcing users to switch between different apps to control their lights. Users wanted more intuitive ways to organize and schedule their lights, as well as more advanced customization options for brightness and color.

The Solution

My design for the Luxum app addressed these problems by providing a centralized platform that supported various smart light brands. The app featured a home dashboard for an overview of all connected lights, detailed individual light controls, and the ability to group lights for easier management. Advanced scheduling options allowed users to automate their lighting preferences, while the discovery and setup page facilitated easy integration of new devices. The design created a consistent and visually appealing user experience, making the app both functional and enjoyable to use.
